Biogas Production

In biogas plants, large volumes of digestate and sludge are generated during anaerobic digestion and gas production. For the process to operate reliably, these residual streams must be treated and handled efficiently before being transported for storage, further processing, or land application as biofertilizer.

Autofric supplies equipment for multiple stages of biogas production. By combining separation, thickening, polymer dosing, dewatering, and material transport, facilities can achieve stable and reliable handling of digestate.

Particle Separation

In some processes, larger particles and fibrous materials must be separated from the sludge stream prior to further treatment. This creates a more homogeneous material and improves the efficiency of subsequent process steps.
The Sludge Cleaner ASC separates solid particles from liquid flows, producing a more uniform sludge for further treatment.

Digestate Thickening

To reduce the volume of sludge and digestate, a thickening process is often used prior to dewatering.
Autofric’s Sludge Thickener ABT concentrates the sludge and improves conditions for subsequent treatment by increasing the solids content of the material.

Polymer Preparation and Dosing

To optimize dewatering, polymers are used to bind particles in the sludge together and form larger flocs.
Autofric’s polymer preparation and dosing systems ensure that the polymer is properly dissolved and added in the correct amount to the process.

Dewatering Using a Screw Press

After conditioning, the sludge can be dewatered using screw presses. Through mechanical dewatering, liquid is separated from the solid particles, reducing the moisture content of the digestate.

The pressing process makes the material easier to transport, store, and reuse, for example as biofertilizer.

Material Transport Within the Plant

Materials in biogas plants often need to be transported between several process stages.

Autofric’s screw conveyors are used to transport sludge, fibrous materials, and dewatered residues throughout the plant. The conveyors can be installed horizontally or at an incline and are customized to suit each facility’s layout and capacity.

Typical applications in biogas plants include:

  • Transport of digestate from digesters
  • Feeding screw presses for dewatering
  • Handling of dewatered digestate

Transport to storage or further processing

By combining separation, thickening, polymer dosing, dewatering, and transport, Autofric can deliver complete solutions for material handling in biogas production.
